Definition
Surah Az-Zumar is the 39th surah of the Quran, a Makki surah with 8 ruku and 75 verses. "Zumar" means a group.
It opens declaring the Book's revelation is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise, and commands the Prophet ﷺ to worship Allah alone, sincere to Him in religion.
Hadith on its virtue: Hazrat Aisha (RA) narrates the Prophet ﷺ would not sleep until he recited Surah Bani Isra'il and Surah Az-Zumar.
- Allah created the heavens and earth in truth; He wraps night over day and day over night, and subjected the sun and moon, each running its course for an appointed term.
- He created mankind from a single soul, then made from it its mate, and sent down for cattle eight mates in pairs.
- He creates human beings in the wombs of their mothers, in stages, within three veils of darkness.
- If disbelievers are asked who created the heavens and earth, they themselves admit it is Allah — yet they still worship others besides Him.
- All intercession belongs to Allah alone, and to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and earth; none can intercede without His permission.
- Allah alone takes souls at death, and withholds the soul of one destined to die even in sleep, sending back the other until an appointed term.
Definition
Believers are devoutly obedient during the hours of the night, prostrating and standing in prayer, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for their Lord's mercy; they listen to what is said and follow the best of it; and they do good deeds, for which there is goodness in this world and unmeasured reward in the Hereafter.

Az-Zumar 39:53 — قُلْ یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیْنَ اَسْرَفُوْا عَلٰٓی اَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوْا مِنْ رَّحْمَةِ اللّٰهِ ۭ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ جَمِیْعًا ۭ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِیْمُ — Translation: Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Definition
When Allah decides to establish the Day of Judgment, He will command Hazrat Israfil (AS) to blow the trumpet (Sur). At the first blowing, everyone in the heavens and earth will fall dead, except whom Allah wills. At the second blowing, all will stand up looking on. The earth will shine with the light of its Lord, the Record of deeds will be placed, prophets and witnesses will be brought, and judgment given in truth, with none wronged. The disbelievers will then be driven to Hell in groups (zumar), while the righteous will be led to Paradise in groups, its gates opened for them with words of peace.

Ash-Shu'ara 26:85 (prayer for attaining Paradise) — وَاجْعَلْنِیْ مِنْ وَّرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِیْمِ — Translation: And make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.
